When
4:00 PM – 6:00 PM
As part of Objects at Play, join artist Cassandra Mayela Allen for a special edition of her Intuitive Weaving workshop in support of Venezuela.
🗓️ Sunday, July 12th | 4 to 6pm
📍 67 West St., Studio 513
In response to the humanitarian crisis affecting Venezuela, Cassandra has been organizing a series of initiatives to raise awareness, foster connection, and support relief efforts. At SUDESTADA, we believe in the power of making as a way to gather, reflect, and care for one another. Working through the language of textiles, we invite you to join us for a very special edition of Intuitive Weaving.
Using reclaimed flags, found textiles, and upcycled materials, participants will explore the flag not as a fixed symbol, but as an evolving expression of belonging, memory, identity, and collective care.
"In my studio, I create space for mindfulness and exploration. As a self-taught artist, my practice has developed in an instinctive, flexible way. I’m interested in the making; the process. Always searching for the flow." Cassandra Mayela Allen
This workshop offers an opportunity to slow down, gather around a communal table, and create alongside others. Through weaving, conversation, and shared making, participants will contribute to an atmosphere of solidarity, connection, and support.
NO EXPERIENCE NEEDED! Registration also includes handmade wooden frame looms (yours to keep for an additional fee), plus drinks and bites. Each participant will leave with a finished handwoven piece that can be displayed as a wall hanging or applied to a garment if they choose to get creative.
All proceeds from this workshop will be donated to Yo Tengo un Sueño, supporting their efforts to build a shelter for pregnant women and their families in Venezuela.
