As part of Objects at Play, join artist Nathalie Basoski for a hands-on textile collage workshop exploring photography, memory, and material transformation through fabric and stitch.

🗓️ Sunday, June 27th | 4 to 7pm
 📍 67 West St., Studio 513

Inspired by her works Open Field Pt. 1 and Open Field Pt. 2, currently on view in the exhibition, participants will work with sport-inspired photographic prints on cotton canvas, cutting, layering, and reconstructing them into stitched compositions using a sewing machine.

Working across photography and textile-based practices, Basoski creates layered compositions that transform images into fragmented visual narratives. Through cutting, stitching, and reassembly, photographs become tactile surfaces where memory, material, and image intersect.

The workshop combines theoretical reflection with hands-on textile production. Participants are welcome to bring personal textiles, or ephemera should they wish to incorporate them into their piece.

WORKSHOP STRUCTURE

Context & Inspiration: An introduction to the artist's practice, methods, and approach to photography, textile, and image-making.

Sewing Machine Basics: A focused introduction covering threading, tension, and straight stitch for those with little or no experience.

Making: Participants develop their own textile collage through cutting, layering, composition, and stitching, with guidance from the artist throughout the process.

Stretching & Mounting Demo: A live demonstration on how to stretch and mount the finished work onto canvas bars.

NO EXPERIENCE NEEDED! All materials, including canvas frames, plus drinks and bites are included.

Each participant will leave with their own mounted textile collage.

ARTIST BIO

Nathalie Basoski (b. 1995, Zwolle, The Netherlands) is a Dutch-Macedonian artist based in Brooklyn, NY. Working across photography and textile-based practices, she explores themes of memory, displacement, and foreignness. Combining film photography with textiles such as linen, curtains, and clothing, she creates large-scale, quilt-like compositions that transform domestic and everyday images into fragmented visual narratives. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Macedonia, Susquehanna Art Museum, Amos Eno Gallery, and BWAC.
