Join us for a 2-hour hands-on workshop led by Sam Bennett of Repair Shop, a research and learning studio investigating maintenance, craft, and design.

In this intimate session (limited to 12 participants), you’ll learn:
- A brief history of mending and the environmental importance of repair
- Key darning techniques and how to choose the right yarn and tools
- A step-by-step darning demonstration followed by a darn-along
No prior experience needed!
What to bring:
- A damaged garment to repair — ideally something with small holes or worn areas (socks, sweaters, hats, or wool shirts/flannels work best)
- Darning or tapestry needles
- Lightweight yarn or embroidery floss
- A piece of round fruit (like an orange or apple) or a darning mushroom
After purchasing your ticket, you’ll receive detailed supply recommendations. Total material cost: $5–$15.

Sam Bennett is a repair artist and design researcher exploring aging, care, and repair through material culture, storytelling, and participatory practice. Her work centers cocreation, slowness, and care aesthetics, creating frameworks that value aging and embodied knowledge. She facilitates public repair programs in libraries, schools, and residencies, using mending as a platform for social dialogue and collective memory.
