All are welcome to attend Rag Rug Study Group's fall show-and-tell!!!

We'll be embedding in the Wool Skirts exhibition, a collaboration between Mae Colburn of Rag Rug Study Group and Gimena Garmendia of SUDESTADA. In response to the wool skirts exhibition, we're putting the spotlight on quilts, rag rugs, mended clothing, and other reworked textiles made with plaids and wool.

Bring reworked textiles you have made or collected, including in-progress work, to share with the group and add to our online archive. We’ll place each piece on our dropcloth for group analysis and documentation, then open up for freeform mingling with refreshments. View photos of our last show-and-tell here and visit our online archive hereSuggested donation of $10 for our tip jar to cover materials and refreshments.

ABOUT RAG RUG STUDY GROUP

Rag Rug Study Group (RRSG) is an event series and online archive that places reworked textiles in dialogue with contemporary art, design and architecture practice. We embrace the term ‘rag rug’ because rag rugs embody the creative practice of making do and using materials at hand. Our definition is expansive and our archive includes textiles in all techniques and for all functions that people share during our seasonal in-person show-and-tells. RRSG is a collaboration between artists and researchers Mariah Smith, who has a background in architecture, and Mae Colburn, whose background is in art history. https://www.ragrugstudygroup.net/

ABOUT MAE COLBURN

Mae Colburn is a New York–based weaver with a background in art history. Her work builds on rag rug traditions from the Upper Midwest, blending weaving with research, collection management, and storytelling through textiles. She has collaborated with the Lenore G. Tawney Foundation, the Catalogue Raisonné Scholars Association, and exhibited at institutions including Cornell University, efa Project Space, and the TextielMuseum in the Netherlands. Mae writes about textiles in art and fashion, and co-runs Rag Rug Study Group, a project exploring the medium’s relevance today.

ABOUT MARIAH SMITH

Mariah Smith is an artist, designer, and educator. Her practice explores the role of visual representation in the production and contemplation of tactile, domestically-coded environments.
