STATEMENT

“My use of textiles is reflected by tethered pieces connected as a synthesized whole. By re/de- constructing patterns to follow an intrinsic flow, I align chemical, geographical and cosmological origins. My process shifts modalities of the same “stuff”, mirroring the ubiquitous emergence of our time. For this project, I cut 30 pieces and dyed them in Campeche Blue (a derivative of logwood). I color shifted them with pH modifiers including baking soda, soda ash, citric acid and iron, dried under the July sun. During the duration of this 45-day period, I unraveled, frayed, and stitched the strips back together." Tajah Ellis
