STATEMENT

" The “Pearlies” of London, or “Pearly Kings and Queens,” is a deeply rooted charitable tradition of the London working class that originated in the nineteenth century. Their hallmark is suits covered with mother-of-pearl buttons, worn to raise money for charity. This culture, with its strong sense of community and family legacy, remains active today. This skirt is an ode to this movement, which we should get closer to as a society, especially in these hard times around the world." Camila Banzo

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Camila Banzo started deconstructing and upcycling preexisting garments from her vintage shop, La Vintaje, inspired by the world she observed while living in Mexico City, her hometown. BANZO, her eponymous label, was born in 2021 thanks to the need of creation, of being able to transform emotion into something tangible, beautiful, and to explore the bond between memories and clothes. The artisanal approach to each piece that is re-crafted makes every one of them one-of-a-kind.
