Julia Justo is an interdisciplinary artist of Indigenous-Italian descent, based in New York. Her practice spans mixed media, textiles, and social engagement, drawing on education, research, and community activism. Justo’s textile works, often using abstract and geometric patterns, explore her Indigenous heritage and highlight the experiences of Latin American workers, especially street vendors and domestic laborers. Through embroidery, she reflects on the visibility and repetition inherent in manual labor, while concealing the identities of her subjects to protect their privacy. She has exhibited widely across the U.S. and internationally, and her work has been recognized with numerous grants and residencies, including from the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation and El Museo del Barrio.
